بَشَّرَ بالصُّبحِ كَوكَبُ الصُبحِ

فاضَ وَجُنْحُ الدُّجَى كَلا جُنْحِ

The morning star heralded the dawn

The wings of darkness receded, wing by wing

فَهْوَ على الفَجرِ كالسّنانِ هَوَى

لِلْعَينِ كما هَوَى على رُمْحِ

It fell upon the dawn like an arrow falling

Upon the eye as it would fall on a lance
