سقى حلباً ساقي الغمامِ ولا ونى

يروحُ على أكنافها ويبكّر

The rain clouds watered Aleppo yet did not forget

To nourish her outskirts and visit her early

هي المألفُ المألوفُ والموطنُ الذي

تخيرتهُ من خير ما أَتخير

She is the familiar, the accustomed, the home

I chose from the best of what I could choose

صحبتُ لديها الدهرَ والدهرُ أبيضٌ

ونادمتُ فيها العيشُ والعيشُ أخضر

I spent my life with her and life is white

And I enjoyed living there and living is green

لنا في بعاذينٍ مصيفٌ وَمَرْبَعٌ

وفي جوَ باصفراءَ مبدىً ومحضر

For us there are summer resorts and squares

And in her yellow air, horizons and dwellings

رباعُ بني الهمّاتِ حيث تشاءموا

لِيُعْرفَ معروفٌ ويُنكر منكر

Encampments of the distinguished where they gathered

To recognize favors and reject wrongs

ترى ترباً شتى فتربٌ مصندلٌ

ينافسه في الحسن تُرْبٌ مزعفر

You see various soils so a sandy soil

Rivals in beauty a gray dusty soil

وروضاً تلاقى بين أثناءِ نبته

مُمَسَّك نَوْرٍ يُجْتَنى ومعنبر

And gardens where amidst the plants' growth

Clings preserved light, harvested and ambergris scented
