Oh how I yearned for the olive orchards of Batiyas
With their noble cypress and poplar trees
Whoever forgets them one day, I am no friend of his
However long the years pass among people
O homeland! It was one of the best homelands when
I sat in it, relaxed amongst friends
I could barely conceal my love for it and my ardour
Except they guessed my passion from my breaths
The birds singing in the trees used to wake me
When their cups stirred me from slumber
The description of the gardens was enough for me to live on
The description of the hills, could that be wrong?
And someone saying to me, awaken one day, I said to him
Is it from the drunkenness of love or from the drunkenness of wine?
I only drink pleasure from the hand of a gentle
Gazelle-eyed one, supple as a willow wand
With rosy cheeks under a rosy chemise
Crowned with roses around his head
O you who describe the garden, preoccupied with that over
Places made desolate after the company of friends
Say to the one who blamed it: Do you see anyone bored
With the beauty of the garden other than people?
