I say, as I left Homs and Damascus dawned
Upon us, greeting us, aloof and demure,
The camels urging us on with their saddles
As falcons urge the partridges they lure,
When you make Lebanon your right hand’s ornament,
And your left cradles Mount Sanir,
Then my heart will be a bird in flight or else
My body and heart will fly to you entire.
