1. لوعةٌ ما تزحزحُ

    وجوى ليس يبرحَ

    An anguish that does not subside,

    A passion that does not depart,

  2. وشجى ما أزال

    أغبق منه وأصبحُ

    A grief I have not yet removed,

    More confounded than it, though morn arrives,

  3. وأسىً كلما خبا

    ضوؤه عاد يقدحُ

    And a sorrow whenever it wanes,

    Its light returns to be kindled,

  4. وحسود يحاول ال

    جد من حيث يمزحُ

    And enviers attempting but no

    Way where they jest,

  5. فهو ياسو إذا حضر

    ت وان غبت يجرح

    Thus he is miserable if present

    And hurts if absent,

  6. فمداج مواربٍ

    ومبين مصرح

    So deviant and evasive

    And evident and frank,

  7. كأبن آوى يعوي

    ورايء وكالكلب ينبحُ

    Like a son who howls

    And behind, like a dog that barks,

  8. عجبي والخطوب

    تبرح فينا وتسنح

    My wonder is trouble persists in us and lodges,

    And turns of fate sometimes thrust and sometimes gore,

  9. وصروف الزمان

    ترمح حيناً وتنطحُ

    For my students, for the comfort of

    Living and death, I go,

  10. لطلابي لراحة ال

    عيش والموت أروحُ

    Tell the unjust profit

    Through praise if he continues praising,

  11. قل لباغي ربحٍ

    بمدحٍ إذا ظل يمدحُ

    Praise the Prophet's family, O unjust,

    Through it profit profits,

  12. مدح آل النبي يابا

    غي الربح أربحُ

    Through them salvation is granted

    Tomorrow when fates are apportioned

  13. من بهم تمنح النجاة

    غداً حين تمنحُ

    And through them matters are corrected

    Which cannot otherwise be corrected,

  14. وبهم تصلح الأمو

    ر التي ليس تصلحُ

    No eloquent one but by them

    Is more eloquent than he,

  15. ما فصيح إلا وهم

    بالعلى منه أفصحُ

    They surpassed explaining the prohibition

    With an advice none can explain,

  16. سبقوا شرح ذي النهى

    بنهيّ ليس تشرحُ

    To the dispossessed they are

    The most generous hands and most giving,

  17. هم على المعدمين

    أوسع ايدٍ وأفسحُ

    Whenever weighed against them

    They are weightier,

  18. كلما ووزنوا به

    فهمُ منه أرجح

    The birds of fire in the deserts

    Birds whose cries ever resonate,

  19. طير النار في الحشا

    طائر ظل يصدح

    Crying woefully, not knowing

    That I for them lament,

  20. ناح شجواً وما درى

    أنني منه أنوحُ

    I am more woeful in spirit than they

    And more compassionate and wounded,

  21. أنا أشجى منه فؤاداً

    وأضنى وأقرحُ

    I have a heart whose fire

    Every day salt and burning,

  22. لي فؤادٌ بناره

    كل يوم ملوح

    And desolate in the horizon's expanse

    Are my scorches detailed,

  23. وحشا بالمدى مدى

    حرقاتي تشرح

    For al-Husayn whom the affairs

    With his mention overflow,

  24. للحسين الذي الشؤ

    ون بذكراه تسفح

    The son of one who stood by guidance

    When standing advising,

  25. لابن من قام بالنصي

    حة إذ قام ينصح

    The slaughtered, slaughtered of

    Thirst, as he is slaughtered,

  26. الذبيح الذبيح من

    عطشٍ وهو يذبحُ

    One who saw the Prophet's son

    In his blood, how he swims

  27. من رأى ابن النبي

    في دمه كيف يسبح

    Aspiring, his gaze towards

    His family when he aspires,

  28. طامحاً طرفه إلى

    أهله حين يطمحُ

    Blinking his eye,

    While in Karbala's woes, opening,

  29. يطبق العين و

    هو في كرباتٍ ويفتحُ

    In me is an ardor for al-Husayn

    That agonizes my heart and wounds,

  30. بي جويّ للحسين

    يولم قلبي ويقرح

    A hero whose like

    No bed has ever contained,

  31. أبطحيٌ ما إن حوى

    مثله قسط أبطح

    Honors glimpse from

    His face when they glimpse,

  32. تلمح المكرمات من

    طرفه حين تلمحُ

    What grave through the slain

    Became filled, triumphant,

  33. أي قبرٍ بالطف

    أضحى به الطف بنجح

    By my father the slain, discarded

    To exaltation, in it discarded,

  34. بأبي الطف مطرحاً

    للعلى فيه مطرحُ

    The earth's expanse by it

    Grieves while the interior rejoices,

  35. ظاهر الأرض منه

    محزن والبطن تفرحُ

    The journey was pleasant with the slain, and they became

    From a slain poured

  36. مالسفر بالطف أمسوا

    حلولاً وأصبحوا

    On its sides, the birds wings,

    And a fallen whose

  37. من صريع على

    جوانبه الطير جُنح

    Dirt covers and discards,

    So may Allah greet

  38. وطريحٍ على محا

    سنه الترب يطرحُ

    My callers protected by them when they met,

    How ugly! Unless the people rode

  39. فلحى اللَه مستب

    يحي حماهم وقد لحوا

    More ugly than it,

    The House of the Prophet,

  40. ما قبيحٌ ألا وما ار

    تكب القوم أقبحُ

    Why from you do I sway?

    Successful those who

  41. آل بيت النبي

    مالي عنكم تزحزحُ

    Remained in your guidance and succeeded,

    I in that have no peer

  42. أفلح الساكنون

    ظل هداكم وانجحوا

    That I strive and work for,

    Perhaps Allah will pardon my

  43. أنا في ذاك لا سوى

    ذاك أسعى وأكدحُ

    Sins and forgive.

  44. فعسى اللَه عن ذنو

    بي يعفو ويصفح
