فَسيري وَاِشرَبي بِبَناتِ قَينٍ
وَما لَكِ بِالسَماوَةِ مِن مَعادِ
So journey on, and drink at Banāt Qayn;
there is no return for you to al-Samāwa.
رَعَينَ الحَمضَ حَمضَ خُناصِراتٍ
بِما في القُرعِ مِن سَبَلِ الغَوادي
The she-camels grazed the saltbush—the saltbush of Khunāṣirāt—
along with what lay in the bare tracts, fed by the morning rainclouds’ showers.
كَأَنَّ مَواقِعَ الصِردانِ مِنها
مَناراتٌ بُنينَ عَلى جَمادِ
As though the spots upon them where shrikes perched
were beacon-towers built on solid rock.
