1. سَرى وَعَليل الريح قَد حَرك الرندا

    بَريق بَدا وَهناً فَذَكرنا نَجدا

    The breeze stirred the leaves of the willow

    A gleam appeared, awakening memories of Nejd

  2. وَحَدثنا عَن جيرة البان وَالنَقا

    أَحاديث جَد قَد أَثارَت لَنا وَجدا

    It told tales of the settlement of Banu Hilal and Banu Sulaym

    Stirring emotions long buried within

  3. بِروحي ذاكَ الحَي مِن مربع بِه

    عُيون الظباء النجل تقتنص الأسدا

    It carried the spirit of that camp

    Where gazelles' eyes hunt lions

  4. محل فَقدنا بَعده كُل لَذة

    ترام وَفارقنا بِهِ العيشة الرَغدا

    When it left, gone was all pleasure

    Life became bitter when it departed

  5. وَردنا بِهِ ماء الوِصال مروقاً

    نعم وَشَمَمنا فوقَ كُثبانهِ وَردا

    It returned cool, sweet water

    We smelled roses on its dunes

  6. لَيالي كُنا لا نَرى غَير ربرب

    ألوف وَريم لَيسَ تخلفنا عَهدا

    Nights when we saw nothing but lightning

    Thousands of sparks left no moment unlit

  7. يُضاحكنا بَرق الثُغور عشية

    فَتَمنحنا دراً وَتسكرنا وَردا

    Dusk's lightning smiled as it granted

    Us pearls and intoxicated us with wine

  8. لَيالي لَم نحذر بِهن قَطيعة

    وَلَم نَرَ مِن ليلى صدوداً وَصَدا

    Nights we never feared separation

    Nor saw rejection or refusal from our beloved

  9. لَيالي ريعان الشَباب بِحاحز

    يَجر عَلَينا مِن جَلابيبه بردا

    Nights when the spring of youth clothed us

    In its robes, warming us with its chill

  10. يَعود عَلَينا الرند مسكاً وَيَنثَني

    حَصاه لَنا دراً وَغدرانه شَهدا

    The breeze returns, musk-scented, folding

    Its lodges to grant us pearls and its treason, honey

  11. رِياض جنان بِالمَحاسن زخرفت

    بِها قاصِرات الطَرف قَد سَكَنوا الخُلدا

    Gardens of bliss adorned with beauties

    Who dwell forever in eternal peace

  12. غَرائر أنس قَد خلقن جَواهِراً

    جَعَلنَ لجيد الحسن في حاجر عقدا

    Houries of intimacy created as precious gems

    Adorning slender necks with necklaces

  13. عَرائس فردوس لَبسنَ مَطارِفاً

    مِن السُندس الشَفاف تستجمر الندا

    Brides of Paradise, dressed in transparent silk

    That sets their features aglow

  14. إِذا قُلت للدَهر ائتني مِن ملاحها

    وَعجل بِلَيلى قالَ خُذها وَخُذ سعدى

    When I asked fate for its salt, and for my beloved Laila

    It said: "Take them!" And take Saadi too!

  15. سَقى اللَه ذاكَ الحَي صيب مزنه

    كَأَنمل عَبد اللَه إِذ نظر الوَفدا

    May God water that camp with abundant rain

    Like the family of Abdullah when they saw the delegation

  16. جَرى وَبلها جَري البُحور لِقاصد

    فَما ادخرت فَضلاً وَلا أهملت قَصدا

    It flowed, reaching them like a torrent

    Holding nothing back, neglecting no one

  17. وَسالَت كَما الوَسمي في كُل وجهة

    فَما تَرَكت جدباً هُناكَ وَلا جهدا

    It spread in every direction like markings on skin

    Leaving no place parched or barren

  18. وَلما هَمت خلنا السَماء عَلى الثَرى

    استهلت فخذ ما شئت مِن درها رفدا

    When it descended from the sky to the earth

    It opened: take what you wish of its copious gift

  19. وَقُم عِندهُ وَانظر هُناك فَضائِلاً

    تورثها فَخراً وَأورثها سعدا

    Stand before it and look upon virtues

    That bring it pride and grant it happiness

  20. عُلوم سَما في نَشرِها أَنجُم السَما

    وَطالَ عَلى طول البُدور بِها مَجدا

    Celestial knowledge in its diffusion: the stars spread

    And its glory covered the horizons for ages

  21. سُطور زَهَت مِنها الطُروس بِكَفه

    يُحررها نصحاً وَيوضحها رُشدا

    Lines that shine so brightly, the Pleiades cannot match them

    He writes them sincerely, elucidating, guiding

  22. يَراع يريع الأَغبياء حسامها

    وَيسكت في بُرهانها الأَلسن اللدا

    His sword's sharpness silences the babbling of fools

    His proofs refute the most stubborn tongues

  23. نَتيجة فَضل مِن قياس إِذا بَدا

    لِجاحد حَق لا يطيق لَهُ ردا

    These are the fruits of his judicious mind

    None can challenge what he makes clear

  24. تقدم فيها والداه وَجده

    إِذا كرمت أَصلاً فَما أَكرم الولدا

    His father and grandfather excelled here too

    Nobility's son is surely noble indeed

  25. هُم سادة يَقضي الزَمان بِكَونهم

    إِذا سالَموا شَهداً وَإِن حارَبوا ربدا

    They are lords whom time's passage has decreed

    Witnesses, when conciliatory; destroying fortresses, when warring

  26. وَإِن وَهَبوا سحباً وَإِن غَضبوا ربى

    وَإِن طالَعوا نَجماً وَإِن رَكِبوا أسدا

    Bestowing clouds, when angry; lions, when mounts

    Stars, when they rise; lions, when they attack

  27. هُم العرب الأَنجاب مِن آل خندف

    سل السَيف عَنهُم وَالمضمرة الجردا

    They are the finest Arabs, of Khandaf's clan

    Ask the sword about them, and the polished blade

  28. وَسل عَنهُم سود الكَتائب إِن عدوا

    أَيَبقون مِن تِلكَ الجموع لَهُم فَردا

    Ask the thick ranks of enemies, if you number them

    Would any of those hordes leave even one of them?

  29. فَعد مِن الأَفراد عدنان إنَّهُ

    مِن السادة السامين للناس قَد عدا

    Count among the individuals: Adnan, he

    Is one of the sublime lords of all people

  30. وَواف معداً كَعبة الجود وَالنَدى

    فَلله ما أَجداه مَولى وَما أَندى

    He brought generosity and munificence to perfection

    My Master! None were more generous or high-minded

  31. وَلَم يعرف النزر القَليل نِزارهم

    وَلَكنهُ كَالغَيث إِن جادَ أَو أَسدى

    The little they had did not limit their generosity

    Rather, they poured like rain, whether downpour or drizzle

  32. وَما مضر الحمرا إِذا احمرت الوَغى

    سِوى أسد يردي بِصارمه الأسدا

    And Mudar, what are they when war grows hot

    But lions rending with swords the necks of lions?

  33. وَإلياس حامي حوزة العَهد لِلوَرى

    إِذا خفروا عَهداً فَلَن يخفر العَهدا

    And Ilyas, guardian of the people's covenant

    None could break a pact they've agreed to guard

  34. وَمُدركة لَم يُدرك الناس شَأوه

    وَما هُوَ إِلا البَحر قَد طالَ وَامتَدا

    Mudrika's stature none can comprehend

    He is but the sea, endless in length and breadth

  35. وَفي الجود قَد أَضحى خُزيمة مُفردا

    وَقَد كانَ في يَوم الوَغى العلم الفردا

    In generosity: Khuzaymah, singular

    A unique standard on the day of battle As for the Banu Samun - recall Kananah

  36. وَإِن ذكر السامون فاذكر كَنانة

    عَلا في المَعالي عَن مُعاونة الأَعدا

    Rising above the heights, disdaining aid of enemies

    I have not seen the likes of Nadr, Malik and Fahr Their perspicacity surpassing wisdom's bounds

  37. وَما نَظَرت أَمثال نضر وَمالك

    وَفهر عُيون حَيث فاقوا الملا رُشدا

    The palm of generosity conquered Ghalib's grip His avarice smashed, toppled from its pedestal

    Kaab rose high; and the glory of Murrah's honor -

  38. وَقَد غلبت سحب النَدى كَف غالب

    وَألوى لُؤي هَيكل البُخل فَانهَدا

    Recall Kilab, whenever munificence is recalled

    As for Qusayy - he is the apogee of mankind

  39. وَكَعب علا كَعباً وَمرة قَد سَمَت

    مروءته وَاذكر كِلاباً إِذا أَجدى

    While Abd Manaf brought glory to all people

    How many times in Mecca did Hashim's palm

  40. وَأَما قُصي فَهوَ أَقصى الوَرى على

    وَعَبد مناف قَد أَناف الوَرى مجدا

    Strike down, as drought intensified, fires blazed

    About Shaybah's praise - ask people, for when

  41. وَكَم هشمت في مَكة كَف هاشم

    ثَريداً وَحر الجدب قَد زادَ وَاشتَدا

    His white hair prayed, rain poured in abundance

    Do not forget to mention Abdullah - he Is mankind's greatest in dignity and purity

  42. وَعَن شَيبة الحمد اسأل الناس إِذ سقوا

    بِشَيبته البَيضاء وَاستمطر وَالرفدا

    Hasten to the best of all creation, Muhammad The greatest man in rank, the most praiseworthy

    For the one whose virtues this poem exalts How can my words do justice to extol?

  43. وَلا تَنسَ عَبد اللَه في الذكر أَنَّهُ

    أَعف الوَرى ذَيلاً وَأطهرهم بردا

    His daughter Fatimah your mother, and the noble youth Ali, your father: the magnificent, fragrant lion

    What pride remains for successors to claim Even if they recount all I have proclaimed?

  44. وَعجل بِخَير العالمين محمد

    أَجل الوَرى قَدراً وَأَوفَرهم حَمدا

    I was always silent about every disgrace

    But in the blessed Ramadan I renewed my vow

  45. فَذاكَ الَّذي في الذكر قَد جاءَ مدحه

    فَأَنى لِساني يَستَطيع لَهُ عَدا

    Be pleased with this fasting and the breaking of the fast thereafter May their reward from the All-Sufficient reach your door

    For fate is but your servant, and Eid but your slave

  46. وَبضعته الزَهراء أمك وَالفَتى

    علي أبوك القاسم الأسد الوردا

    As long as the lightning of Sarrai flashes and stirs the leaves of the willow

  47. فَأَي فَخار بَعد هَذا وَسُؤدد

    يَقوم بِهِ التالي وَلَو عد ما عدا

  48. لقد صمت طول العمر عن كل سيئ

    وَفي رَمضان الخَير جددت ذا عَهدا

  49. تَهن بِهَذا الصَوم وَالفطر بَعده

    فَأَجرهما الوافي لبابكم يهدى

  50. فَما الدَهر إِلا أَن يَكون غلامكم

    وَما العيد إِلا أن يَكون لَكُم عَبدا

  51. فَلا زلت سامي القَدر ما لاحَ بارق
