1. هِيَ ظبية في صورة الإِنسان

    فَاسأل يجبك الجيد وَالعينان

    She is a gazelle in the form of a human

    So ask the beautiful one with the two eyes

  2. نَزلت عَلى سَقط العذيب فَراعها

    صَوت اليَراع وَنغمة العيدان

    She descended upon the lowland of adhb and it startled her

    The sound of alarm and the melody of the flexuous branches

  3. وَاستنشقت ريح البشام وَشاقَها

    شَبح الرُبى وَنَوافج الكُثبان

    She inhaled the scent of the north wind and it perturbed her

    The specter of the ruins and the sand dunes

  4. فتلفتت كَالظَبي فارق إلفه

    وَرنت كَما هِيَ عادة الغُزلان

    So she looked around like a gazelle separated from its herd

    And cried out as it is the habit of antelopes

  5. وَتَذكرت عَيشاً لَها في جيرة

    ضَرَبت قِبابهم بِذات البان

    And she remembered a life she had in a neighborhood

    Whose tents were of the same fabric

  6. شوس إِذا اِشتَد اللقا فَضياغم

    يَجرون جَري السَيل في الميدان

    Valiant men, when the war intensifies they charge

    Like a torrent in a race course

  7. وَإِذا اِنتَضوا أَسيافهم في مَوقف

    حَققتها شعلاً مِن النيران

    And when they unsheathe their swords for battle

    It makes it flare up like fires

  8. نَزلوا بِقارعة الطَريق وَشَيدوا

    تلكَ الجِنان الغُر للضيفان

    They descended at the side of the road and built

    Those beautiful gardens for guests

  9. قَوم يمانيون إِلا أَنَّهُم

    قَد صاهروا الأَشراف مِن عَدنان

    Yemeni people, except they

    Have intermarried with the nobility of Adnan

  10. من فتية شَكت رُؤوس رِماحهم

    تيجان كسرى صاحب الإيوان

    Some young men whose spear heads

    Reached the crowns of Chosroes, lord of the palace

  11. جَعَلوا الدُروع ثِيابهم وَتَعوضوا

    حَوزاتهم بَدلاً عن التيجان

    They made shields their clothes and substituted

    Their girdles with crowns instead

  12. وَبمهجين أَخوين مِن ساداتهم

    عَزماً عَلى البَيداء يصطحبان

    And with two brother kings from their masters

    Heading to the desert they travel

  13. أسدان قَد وَلعا بِصَيد فَريسة

    وَتَعودا لِتطاعن الفُرسان

    Two lions accustomed to hunting prey

    And stabbing knights

  14. في مهمه حسد السَماء مَحله

    إِذ في ذراه أَشرق القمران

    In an important place the sky envied its location

    For in its lands the two moons shone

  15. وَالبر يَضحك إِذ جَرى في عَرضه

    بَحران بِالياقوت وَالمُرجان

    And the land laughs as two seas flowed through it

    Seas of rubies and coral

  16. بَحر سُليمان الإمام مَحله

    وَقَرينه السُلطان بَحر ثان

    Suleiman the Imam’s sea in its place

    And its peer, Sultan’s sea the second

  17. غُصنان قَد سقيا بِماء واحد

    فَتشَابها وَتشاكل الغُصنان

    Two branches watered from the same source

    So they resembled and the two branches matched

  18. مِن دَوحة عَربية يَمنية

    وَالفرع مِنها باسق القُضبان

    From an Arabic Yemeni palm tree

    With its blooming towering trunk

  19. قَد أنشئا لُطفاً فَذَلِكَ دَأبه

    فَك الأَسير وَذا لِفَك العاني

    They were brought up with kindness that is its way

    Freeing the captive and the same for saving the starved

  20. كُل إِذا أَبصَرته شبهته

    بِأَخيه وَالشَيئان يَشتبهان

    Whenever you see one you liken him to

    His brother and the two things are indistinguishable

  21. إِن رُمت إِدراك النَوال أَخا الهُدى

    فَانزل عَلى سَلمان أَو سُلطان

    If you wish to attain good tidings, brother of guidance

    Then descend upon Suleiman or Sultan

  22. فَرداً وَلا تَجمَع هديت فَإِنَّني

    أَخشى عَلَيك إِذاً مِن الطوفان

    Individually and do not combine the gift for I

    Fear for you otherwise from the deluge

  23. هب أَنتَ تحسن عَوم بَحر واحد

    أَتَعوم وَالبَحران يَلتَقيان

    Suppose you can swim one sea well

    Can two seas meeting be swum?

  24. وَيشيم طَرفك ضوء بَدر واحد

    أَيشيم وَالبَدران مُجتَمِعان

    And your eye bear the light of one full moon

    Can two moons combined be borne?

  25. وَتطيق حَمل أَبي قَييس وَحده

    أَيُطاق مَضموماً إِلى ثَهلان

    And you endure carrying only Abi Quais

    Can combined with Sahel be tolerated?

  26. ما أَنتَ مثلي إِذ لَقيتهما فَلي

    صَبر الكِرام وَنجدة الفتيان

    You are not like me when I met them both so patience

    Of the generous and rescue by the young men befell me

  27. يا باذِلي بَدر النُقود وَحامِلي

    عبء الوُفود بِسائر الأَزمان

    O you who give freely the full moons of money and bear

    The burden of delegations for all times

  28. لِلّه دركما وَدر أَبيكُما

    مغني العفاة وُمشبع الجوعان

    God bless you two and your father

    Who sings to nourish the destitute and feeds the hungry

  29. فَخُذا بِحَق أَبيُكما مِن مدحتي

    نَظماً كَنَظم قَلائد العقيان

    So take from my eulogy in your father’s right

    Compositions like necklaces of peridot

  30. طَوقت جيدكما بِهِ لأزينه

    بِكُما فَيَبلغ غاية الإحسان

    I have collared your necks with it to adorn it

    With you two so it reaches the utmost beauty

  31. غَض جَرى في طَبعه لَما بَدا

    ماء الصبا وَطَراوة الشُبان

    Of rough nature for when the water of youth appeared

    And the innocence of adolescence he flowed

  32. ما شانه لكن الحَضارة إِذ غَدا

    مِن شاعر يعزى إِلى قَحطان

    His status but civilization when he becomes

    A poet attributed to Qahtan

  33. مِن مَعشر نَزَلوا العشارة بُرهة

    وَالآن قَد نَزَلوا عَلى بغدان

    From a group who descended Al Asharah for a while

    And now have descended upon Baghdad

  34. ما شانهم ضد الغِنى بَل زانَهُم

    دَرس العُلوم وَنَغمة القُرآن

    Their status not against wealth but it adorned them

    Lessons of sciences and tunes of the Quran And attributing him to your great glory

  35. وَكَفى بنسبته لِعالي مَجدكم

    شَرَفاً عَلى الأَمثال وَالأَقران

    Is enough nobility over peers and equals

    Called Hussein and he by your eulogy

  36. يدعى الحُسين وَإِنَّهُ بِمديحكم

    يُدعى بِنابغة الوَرى حسان
