1. بَشائركم وافت وَقَد وَجَب الشُكر

    وَأَفراحكم طابَت فَطابَ لَها الذكر

    Your good tidings have arrived, and gratitude is obligatory,

    Your joys are wholesome, so their mention is wholesome.

  2. سكرنا لَها لَما شممنا عَبيرها

    وَرب عَبير قَد يَكون بِه السكر

    We became drunk with it when we smelled its fragrance,

    And many a fragrance can cause intoxication.

  3. فَيا من بهم يجلى الزَمان لأَنَّهُم

    لظلمته مِن دُون أَقرانهم فَجر

    O you in whom the times shine, for without peers,

    They are darkness for it, with light they glare.

  4. كبار مَعاليهم صِغار نُفوسهم

    لَهُم أَوجه بيض وأردية خضر

    Exalted are their grandeur, small are their souls,

    They have white faces and green attire.

  5. بحار مِن الجَدوى ليوث إِلى الوَغى

    أَسنتهم زرق وَأفراسهم شقر

    Seas of generosity, lions in ferocity,

    Their tongues are bright, their steeds are blond.

  6. وَطلهم وبل وَوابلهم حيا

    وَبدرهم شَمس وَنجمهم بدر

    Their morning draught and night draught and downpour

    And their full moon is a sun, their star is a full moon.

  7. كرام مِن الأقيال لا من خَزاعة

    وَمن حمير لَكن خالهم فهر

    Nobles not from Khuza'ah, and not from donkeys,

    But their maternal uncles are from Fihr.

  8. مُلوك وَمنهم ذو الكلاع وَتبع

    فَواحدهم جَمع وَجمعهم بَحر

    Kings including Dhu Nafar and Tubba',

    Each of them a collective, their total an ocean.

  9. مَصاليت يَروون السُيوف مِن الطلا

    إِذا نكلت مِن ضيق مسلكها السمر

    My companions quench swords with the dew,

    When narrowed is for them the path of the brown.

  10. وَيَستقبلون البيض بِالبيض وَالقنا

    بِأمثالها وَالصَدر يزحمه الصدر

    And they receive the white with the white and the spear

    With its like, while chests cram against chests.

  11. وَلا يَشتهون الضَرب إِلا بِصارم

    مَضاربه بيض وَأدمعه حمر

    They do not covet striking except with sharp swords,

    Their striking is white and their tears are red.

  12. وَهُم جمرة العرب الكِرام وَغَيرهم

    رَماد سفاه الريح لَيسَ لَهُ جَمر

    They are the hot coals of the generous Arabs, others

    Are ashes which the winds blow with no embers.

  13. نهنيهم طراً بعرس محمد

    وَاخوته من فيهم يفخر الفَخر

    We congratulate them on the wedding of Muhammad

    And his brothers, among them the pride of pride boasts.

  14. نَجيب نشا في المَكرُمات وَقَد سَما

    عَلى كُل أَقدار الرِجال لَهُ قَدر

    A noble born in generosity who has attained

    For every worth of men, he has worth.

  15. أَقام عَلى نَشر العُلوم وَطيها

    وَلَولاه كانَ العلم لَيسَ لَهُ نَشر

    He established the dissemination of knowledge

    Without him, knowledge would have no circulation.

  16. وَغاصَ بِتيار الفَضائل فَانثنى

    وَفي كُل جزء مِن مَفاصله در

    He plunged into virtues’ currents, so he excelled,

    In each of his joints is a pearl.

  17. فَفي ذاته لُطف وَفي طَبعه نَدى

    وَفي لَفظِهِ نَظم وَفي يَده نَثر

    In his being is subtlety, his nature is dew,

    In his words prose, in his hand scripture.

  18. يَجود إِذا شَح الحَريص بِماله

    يمد إِذا كانَ البَخيل لَهُ جزر

    He gives generously when the greedy hoards his money,

    He stretches his hand when the miser withdraws it.

  19. وَمَن يُنفق الساعات في جَمع ماله

    مخافة فَقر فَالَّذي فَعل الفقر

    He who spends his hours amassing wealth,

    Fearing poverty, has ensured that poverty comes to him.

  20. وَلا بدع إِن جادَت يَداه لأَنَّهُ

    همام وَعَبد اللَه والده البحر

    It is no wonder his hands are generous, for he

    Is steadfast, and his father is the sea.

  21. فَتى لا يضم القَلب همات قَلبه

    وَلَو ضَمها قَلب لَما ضَمه صَدر

    A young man whose heart conceals no worries of his heart,

    And if it did conceal them, no chest could conceal it.

  22. هَنيئاً بِهَذا العُرس لَقيت خَيره

    كَما يَتَلاقى الهندواني وَالنَصر

    Congratulations on this wedding you have attained its good

    As musk and ambergris come together.

  23. وَلا بَرحت آي السُرور بربعكم

    تكرر حَتّى لا يحد لَها شَطر

    The signs of joy do not cease to repeat in your abode

    Until for them boundaries cannot be determined.

  24. وَأَوقاتكم تقضى بِكُل مَسرة

    وَكانَ لَكُم في كُل ناحية عطر

    Your times are spent in every elation,

    For you in every direction there was fragrance.

  25. وَمالَت غُصون الروض حَتّى كَأَنَّها

    عراها شُجون أَو أَلم بِها خمر

    The branches of the garden inclined as if

    Grief or intoxication had laid them bare.

  26. وَوافته أَقلام الرَياحين في الضُحى

    عَلى صَفحات الماء مِن ظلها سطر

    The pens of sweet basil met it at dawn,

    On the pages of water, tracing its shade.

  27. وَأَضحى البشام اللدن مُذ شام عرسكم

    بِأَول أَيام الرَبيع لَهُ نَشر

    And the oriole since your wedding eve,

    With the first days of Spring, spreads its melodies.

  28. فَللعندليب الحر صَوت مرخم

    وَقَد رَق مِن إِنشادِهِ المَد وَالقَصر

    The free songbird has a resonating voice,

    And its chirping has softened castles and homes.

  29. وَللسعد إِذ وافى إِلينا مؤرخاً

    دوي وَعَين الشَمس قارنها البَدر

    And when the falcon came to us dating it,

    It had an echo, and the sun kept pace with the full moon.
