1. Breezes of the Truth wafted from the realm of holiness,

So the doves of hearts flew free of confinement.

  2. And the fragrance of union spread from that sanctuary

In the morning—yet we had smelled it since yesterday.

  3. And the caller of the Mount called to Moses, His interlocutor:

Take off your sandals: you are in the holy precinct.

  4. Brides of gnosis—so pay their bridal dower,

And it is nothing but casting off your attributes and the self.

  5. And beware of hidden idolatry, for it is

A veil that hides the unity of kind from the solitary ones.

  6. And cast off every kind of clouding, for the Essence is one;

Turn toward Him with inner sight and the senses.

  7. And abandon the illusion of separation, for union is a watering place

For those mad with love, who drink from the cup.

  8. For there is none but One, whose bounty has overflowed

Upon all the atoms of existence, without ambiguity.

  9. Perform ablution with the water of the unseen, and with its secret wash

From the heart the clouding of the eye, or the grime of impurity.

  10. And if you are among those veiled from the encounter,

Perform dry ablution with earth, through proofs and study.

  11. And pray the prayer of the gnostics, for it is

An ascent for your spirit to that Seat.

  12. And fast from His night journey, and keep retreat during His months.

And make pilgrimage to Him, leaving behind jinn and humankind.

  13. And cleanse of idolatry those deeds of yours that

You performed, to reap through the encounter the fruit of planting.

  14. And journey on the path of the folk, and choose a tutor

In keeping with the radiant Sunna and the path of intimacy.

  15. And keep to the way of sacred law as long as you live, for it is

Your life in this world and your light in the grave.

  16. And beware the ignorant man's ecstatic excess and his saying:

“I am God!” Exalted is God, possessor of the Throne and the Seat.

  17. And there is no salvation except through following Muhammad,

The Prophet of guidance, exalted above Arabs and Persians.

  18. Hold fast to him, and make love for him your emblem.

And grasp his traces with all five fingers of yours.

  19. And keep to the path of al-ʿAydarūsī, for indeed

He is the sun: so beware of the blindness of effacement.

  20. Through him the wayfarers toward guidance gain light,

Just as people gain light at the rising of the sun.

  21. His miracles are like the stars, and his excellence

Is immense to those with inner sight and sense.

  22. And his qualities give you an account of his state,

And indeed his name has been inscribed at the head of the parchment.

  23. So be upright in following his path,

And beware of the deceit of misguidance and reversal.

  24. And leave the conceited man who mimics the saints:

For how far the yellow of gold is from the yellow of wars-dye!

  25. For many a pretender has had the door shut against him,

And has become fettered by nature and the self.

  26. And seek aid by invoking blessings upon the one who

Ascended, without doubt, to the presence of holiness.

  27. Upon him be God's blessing, offered to his grave,

Throughout all time, as long as the building stands upon its foundation.

  28. Likewise upon the Companions, the family, and those who

    Followed in their footsteps through learning, memorization, and study;

  29. And the other righteous shaykhs, and whoever strove

Toward the Truth, without leaning on conjecture or guesswork.

  30. And single out among them the noble al-ʿAydarūsī

With Your greatest mercy, coming morning or evening.
