1. The moon of spiritual knowledge appeared from the sphere of the green sky.

    So blessed is the Moses of love: he has come to know al-Khidr.

  2. He appeared and revealed joy to hearts;

    it spread from the reaches of the universe—glory to Him who carried him by night!

  3. He appeared and lit the East with the light of his face,

    and al-Zawra shone with his radiant brow.

  4. I swear, al-Amin has offered to my gaze

    pure gold, and to the ears, pearls from his speech.

  5. So the heart's burning thirst was quenched by nearness,

    and he extinguished separation's fire in my parched liver.

  6. My right eye wept from an excess of joy;

    then, when it grew still, the left shed its tears freely.

  7. Ah, welcome to those arriving, for they are

    the dawns of my joys; through them I stand taller in pride.

  8. And welcome to you, O visitors! Honored were

    al-Hadba and the city of al-Zawra by your footsteps.

  9. And you lodged on its eastern side,

    and your breaths traveled to the other side.

  10. We breathed the fragrance of union before your arrival,

    so it was perfume for us at every moment.

  11. And our hearts have been ransomed by nearness to you,

    even as they have become, O house of Badr, your captives.

  12. And through you the corners of our breasts have blossomed,

    for you are the sons of Fatima al-Zahra.

  13. For you, banners of glory were raised above humankind,

    and standards traced to Mudar al-Hamra.

  14. Mines of secrets and a seat of wisdom,

    and a manifestation of graces; their virtues come in succession.

  15. Peace be upon you, house of Ya-Sin; you are indeed

    seas of eloquence that know the flood tide, not the ebb.

  16. Ask people about them, or ask me about them,

    for I am better qualified for this, since I know them better.

  17. O leaders of humankind, a warm and hearty welcome!

    Indeed, you came by land and encountered a sea.

  18. You lodged with the purest of creation in origin,

    and the finest of them in ancestry, and the broadest of breast.

  19. You lodged with the house of glory, and glory is your forefather;

    so you gained glory through them and rose in stature through them.

  20. You lodged with Abd Allah, whose rank

    rose so high that Sirius lay beneath its station.

  21. He is the consummate scholar and the master whose

    virtues have pervaded the plain and the rugged ground.

  22. So may the lands never cease to live through remembrance of you,

    and every dusty wasteland grow green through you.

  23. And may good news never cease to say to its people:

    The moon of spiritual knowledge appeared from the sphere of the green sky.
