1. The writings of the learned were laid out and spread,

    across the faces of lofty glory, like brocade unfurled.

  2. For if the armies of jurisprudence have banners,

    then Muhyi al-Din's Minhaj is indeed like a crown.

  3. Landmarks al-Shafi‘i has built for us,

    and we have followed the best path to them.

  4. And Shihab al-Din added his Tuhfa to them,

    as a commentary, illuminating what was difficult and dark within it.

  5. Jewels in it had once been scattered;

    thus, there it became like a necklace, complete and radiant.

  6. He never unravelled an abstruse meaning in its wording

    without its becoming like a nail in teakwood.

  7. So say to our master al-Ramli, with apologies:

    You have indeed matched him—no, by the truthful one who is saved!
