1. Through your countenance, town and home blossomed,

And daylight shone from your radiance.

  2. By my life, God indeed fashioned you a rain-bearing star,

So seas poured forth from your generous hands.

  3. You built monuments to glory; there rises

At their highest summit a fire for the guest.

  4. He sights it even if it is far away,

And beholds it even if the destination lies far off.

  5. Palaces in which there is no deficiency,

And a dwelling—a home for bounty and generosity.

  6. Its foundations rest upon abundant generosity;

Its rampart is your rain-laden clouds.

  7. And your lofty resolve within its sanctuary

Is a wall—may that wall never weaken.

  8. And your hand is its gate, guarding its sanctuary

With an edge that is poison and fire to foes.

  9. You rose above—above your peers—until

A house rose for you in the lands of the Grandson.

  10. A sky whose glass panes are white and yellow,

So its stars are silver or pure gold.

  11. Do you know what the inscription within it says?

It says: 'Through my resident, the right of refuge is guarded.'

  12. And on its doors an inscription proclaims:

'Upon its thresholds, honor is safeguarded.'

  13. And in its battlements is lofty honor,

With which the riders journeyed through the cities.

  14. And you did not build the dwellings for boasting,

But the weak are given refuge within them.

  15. Your eminence is firmly rooted, whereas

For others, it is something borrowed.

  16. All the sons of the world took pride in you,

Just as Nizar took pride in its horseman.

  17. Good fortune congratulates you every day

On a house—as do delight and glory.

  18. Yet it did not know that you are a full moon of excellence,

For whose virtues the dwellings themselves are congratulated.

  19. God showed us good fortune in the chronogram:

'For your house, the world's stars are set revolving.'
