أتاني ولم أخشَ الذي تبعثانه

خفيرا بني سَلمى حُريرٌ ورافِعُ

He came to me, yet I did not fear what he brought with him

A light-footed messenger, between Salma's family, silk and one holding a spear

هُما خيباني كل يومٍ غنيمةً

وأهلكتُهم لو أنّ ذلك نافِعُ

They both disappoint me every day with spoils

And I would have destroyed them if that were beneficial

واتبعت أخراهم طريق الأهُم

كما قيل نجمٌ قد خوى متتائِعُ

And I followed the last of them on the path of worries

As it is said, a star that has set, refusing

وخير الذي أعطيكم هي شِرّةٌ

مُهَوَّلةٌ منها سيوفٌ لوامِعُ

And the best thing I can give you is an evil

Terrifying, from which swords blaze

فلا أنا مُعطيكُم عليّ ظُلامةً

ولا الحقّ معروفاً لكم أنا مانِعُ

So I do not give you darkness over me

Nor is truth known to you that I prevent

وإني لأقري الضيف وصَّى به أبي

وجارُ أبي التيجان ظمآن جائِعُ

And I still host the guest as my father commanded

And my father's neighbor, athirst and hungry

فقولا لتيحان بن عامرة استها

أمُجرٍ فلاقى الغيّ أم أنت نازِعُ

So say to Tihan son of Amera, "Do you resist

An ignoble man or are you disputing?"

ولو أن تيحان بن بلج أطاعني

لأرشدته إن الأمور مطالِعُ

And if Tihan son of Bilj had obeyed me

I would have guided him, affairs have beginnings

وإِن يك مدلولاً عليّ فإنني

أخو الحرب لا قَحمٌ ولا متجاذِعُ

And if he is accused of me, then I

Am a brother of war, no coward or lazy one

ولكنّ تيحان بن عاقرة استها

له ذَنَبٌ من أمره وتوابِعُ

Rather, Tihan son of Aqira accused him

He has a sin from his matter and consequences
