إنَّ امرأً مَولاهُ أدنى داره

فيما ألمّ وشَرهُّ لكَ بادِي

A man whose neighbor is his closest friend

Will find harm and trouble from him instead

إن قُلتَ خيراً قال شراً غيرَهُ

أو قُلتَ شراً مَدهُ بمدادِ

Say something good, he'll twist it, change the sense

Speak ill, he'll stretch each word without pretense

فلئِن أَقَمت لأظعنَنَّ لِبَلدةٍ

ولئِن طعنتَ لأرسِين أَوتادي

So if I stay, I know that he will slander

And if I leave, ties will be cut asunder

كانَ التفرقُ بَينَنا مِن مِئرَةٍ

فاذهَب إِليك فقَد شفيتَ فُؤادي

It was a toxic bond forged out of greed

So go your way and let my heart be freed
