1. مَنْ لي بأهيفَ قالَ حين عَتبتُه

    في قطعِ كلَّ قضيبِ بانٍ رائقِ

    Who will I have when offended I say

    In cutting each supple, slender bough

  2. تحكي شمائلَهُ الرشاءُ إذا انثنى

    ريّانَ بينَ جداولٍ وحدائقِ

    The rain describes his traits when it bends

    Flowing between streams and gardens now

  3. سرقتْ غصونُ البانِ لينَ شمائلي

    فقطعتُها والقطعُ حدُّ السارقِ

    The boughs of benzoin my supple form stole

    So I cut them; such is the thief's role
