I was content with the flashes of lovers as captivity

The next morning, passion besieged me

And since the love took the reins of my heart

I resisted and was pleased with myself

So I stood up to the army of love until

I got tired of its struggle morning and evening

So whoever thought love was easy, leave him

His hands withered and his perception failed

    It restored my strength when

I inclined to innocent love in retreat

And I saw the slender, beautiful one swaying

Her lips I kissed and her dress I smelled

And I heard the jingling of her jewelry

So it weakened my determination and patience in it

And my body was clad in sickness

They claimed that separation makes one forget

But who has known union, how can he forget?

Will the days bring me close again

To a shrine I found intimacy in?

And will the house approach Asma

Until its soil returns to holiness?

I will look at it and at their traces in it

With sorrow and celebration for their blooms

If through determination I could bring

The fires of heroes in attack

Black camels whose sides are dyed red

    Shading them to heated sands

    On excellent, short-tailed steeds

Carrying them when they were once suns

They build with the polished swords

When I hurl valor at it

I humiliate the heads of every tribe

Though they generously fight in hordes

My friend, leave me to the skilled ones

When the night falls in slumber

    When lightning sees lightning flash

It yearns and will neither tire nor sleep

If not for passion, I would not have faced the desert nights

Or made in the deserts a shelter

When they incline to the places of Najd

You would think it found some food there

    It visits the desolate sands

As if it took cover in the darkness

I visit my loved ones wherever they are

Her cheek competing with the ostrich's feet

Her braids in the meadows fly

As if they were burrs on the expanse of the desert

If my she-camel were not noble in battle

Firm lines while they have imprints

When they raise their tails, we see

Lines we see no blemish in

I knew your affection for me was perfect

Free of worries, with pleasant company and roots

You knew what was certain within me

Of passions, not guessing and delusions

If you saw me, you'd think I was

A dead man buried in the cemetery

Lying down, not answering when called

    Silent, barely breathing

Hoping in the darkness of night for a full moon

To visit, and in the day's light, a sun
