تَدَبَّر ما أَصابَ تَجِدكَ قَومٌ

لِأَسبابِ المَصائِبِ ذا اِكتِسابِ

Ponder what has befallen you, you will find a people

For the causes of misfortunes, themselves acquiring,

وَعَهدُكَ بِالتَذَكُّرِ تَلقَ عَهدا

بِهِ قَد كُنتَ في طَورِ الخَطابِ

And your undertaking remembrance, you will find an undertaking

With which you were in the prime of youth,

فَأَيّامَ التَصابي لَيسَ يَنسى

بِهارِبِ الحِجى شَرخَ الشَبابِ

So the days of calamities are not forgotten

With the fleeing of modesty the bloom of youth is torn
