1. Clad in the raiment of glory, I cast off the robe of my abasement.

    And I forsook the denizens of madrasas and Sufi hospices.

  2. Among the factions of union, I joined a band.

    Through them I attained the word of one who is right, not one who errs.

  3. And I came to be, my dwelling a circle for lovers.

    Its flowing circumference is theirs, while mine is the line’s point.

  4. And when the people of love beheld the form of my point,

    They called one another to acknowledge both shaping and dotting.

  5. Through me they beheld the unfolding of souls within their enfolding.

    And in me they saw the scales set up with justice.

  6. Nor do I refer my unquestioning follower to some unseen matter,

    Only for assent to my words to show above an undercurrent of resentment.
