1. لَستُ بِذي وَجدٍ إِذا

    وَجَدتُ لِلحُبِّ أَذى

    I'm not one to despair when

    I find love's pain.

  2. أَلِصَبُّ مَن زادَ بِإي

    لامِ الهَوى تَلَذُّذا

    Is not the lover made happier

    By the bliss of passion's union?

  3. وَراحَ عَن لَوّامِهِ

    بِحمِلِهِ مُنتَبِذا

    He turns from the critic

    Bearing his burden, estranged,

  4. مُستَغنِياً بِذِكرِهِ

    عَنِ الشَرابِ وَالغِذا

    Self-sufficient in remembering his beloved,

    Indifferent to food and drink,

  5. وَجَنَّةً لَهُ الصَيا

    مِ قَد غَدا مُتَّخِذا

    His fasting has become

    A paradise for him,

  6. وَبَذَّ في إِفطارِهِ

    بِنُطقِهِ أَهلَ البِذا

    And in breaking his fast

    His words confound the gluttons.

  7. وَصارَ باسِمَ قُدسِهِ

    لِشَعبِهِ مُعَمَّذا

    By the sanctity of her name

    He has devoted himself to his people,

  8. وَفي وَقودِ نارِهِ

    لِلناسِ أَضحى مُؤَبَّذا

    And in the flames of his passion

    He has become fuel for mankind.

  9. وَعادَ لِلأَحكامِ في

    أَهلِ الغَرامِ مُنفَذا

    He returns to rule

    The people of love, empowered,

  10. لِأَنَّهُ فيهِ بِلا

    سُلطانِهِ ما أَنفَذا

    For he reigns among them

    With unquestioned authority.

  11. وَلَم يَرُح مُتَلمِذاً

    حَتّى غَذا مُتَلمَذا

    He continued unwavering

    Until from student, he became master.

  12. لَم يُثنِهِعَن قَولِهِ

    هَذيُ مَقالِ مَن هَذا

    No saying of "Who is this?"

    Could turn him from his words,

  13. وَلَم يُزِغ ياظِرَهُ

    عَن مَشهَدَ الغَيبِ القَذى

    No glance could distract

    His gaze from the unseen world.

  14. وَمُذ أَتى بِالخَلعِ طَو

    عَ الأَمرِ مِنهُ ما اِحتَذى

    Since coming to power,

    None has violated his command.

  15. يا حَبَّذا سيرَتُهُ

    في عِشقِهِ يا حَبَّذا

    How excellent is his conduct

    In his love! How excellent!

  16. يا صاحِبَيَّ لِمَقا

    لي دونَ أَغياري خُذا

    My friend, take only

    My words, not those of others.

  17. وَما وَرا رَقمِ كِتا

    بي جِهَةِ الخَلفِ اِنبَذا

    And do not look behind

    The pages of my book.

  18. فَلَيسَ بِالصَبِّ أَخو

    صَبابَةٍ لَيسَ كَذا

    One who feels no passion

    Is no lover, this is not so.
