يا مَن نَراهُ في المَنامِ صورَةً

في يَقظَتي مَعي أَراهُ مَعنى

O you whom I see in my dream, an image,

In my wakefulness, I see you with me, as meaning,

فَغَيبُهُ لي مَشهَدٌ وَمَشهَدي

في غَيبِهِ مَعنى لِمَن تَمَعنى

So your absence from me is a scene, and my scene

In your absence, has meaning for whoever contemplates.
