1. أَلِحَزمُ زَينٌ لِلفَتى

    وَشينُهُ التَهَوُّرُ

    Prudence adorns the youth

    While recklessness disgraces him

  2. وَالجَهلُ لِلصاحي مِنَ ال

    خَمرَةِ خُمرٌ مُسكِرُ

    Ignorance makes the sober man drunk

    From the wine more intoxicating

  3. وَموشِرٌ يَبخَلُ أَهنا

    مِنهُ سَمحٌ مُعسِرُ

    The miser who hoards though from him

    Generosity would enrich him

  4. وَشاهِدٌ بِنَقصِهِ

    مَن بِسِواهُ يَفخَر

    And one who boasts of his own virtue

    Belittles all other men
