and from decay’s folds, my renewal.

  2. And from its filter vanishes

    the heaviness that burdens hearing.

  3. Through it, the blind man sees

in the night the brightness of dawn.

  4. And if the afflicted man passes by it,

    it saves him from harm.

  5. Long have I been parted from it,

yet it has never left my thoughts.

  6. I shall never forget—and who could forget—

when in it my affairs came to fulfillment:

  8. and may the downpour greet the shining, radiant one

    on my behalf.

  9. How many favors the beloved bestowed

there in the midst of wine!

  10. And how often I kissed the sun of

wine there, from the hand of the full moon.

  11. You will see my gratitude to her

    in my silence about gratitude.
