1. وَما المَرءُ في دُنياهُ إِلّا كَهاجِعٍ

    تَراءت لَهُ الأَحلامُ وَهيَ خَوادِعُ

    In this world a man is but a sleeper

    Dreaming of all kinds of things

  2. ينعِّمُهُ طَيفٌ مِنَ اللَهوِ باطِلٌ

    وَيُوقِظُهُ نَومٌ مِنَ الدَهرِ فاجِعُ

    While phantoms of delight beguile him

    And wakeful sorrow and care assail him
