يا رُبّ غُصنٍ نُورُه
يُزري بِنورِ الشَفقِ
Ah, many a bough whose light
puts the light of twilight to shame!
يَظَلُّ طُول عُمرِهِ
يَبكي بِجفنٍ أَرقِ
Throughout its life it keeps
weeping with a sleepless eyelid.
صُفرَتُهُ تُخبِرُ عَن
عِشقٍ وَلَمّا يَعشَقِ
Its yellow hue tells of
love, though it has not yet loved.
نارُ المُحبِّ في الحَشا
وَنارُهُ في المَفرِقِ
The lover's fire is in the breast,
and its fire is at the crown of the head.
لاحَ لَنا في مَغرِبٍ
فَرَدَّنا في مَشرِقِ
It shone for us at sunset,
then brought us back into sunrise.
