يا مَن يَبيتُ مُحِبّهُ
مِنهُ بِلَيلَةِ أَنقَدِ
O you whose lover spends the night
O you who spend the night consumed with love of him
because of you, sleepless as Anqad the hedgehog;
In a single night more fiery than years
إِن غِبتَ عَني سُمتَني
وَشكَ الرَدى فَكَأَن قَدِ
if you are absent from me, you subject me
If you are absent from me, it destroys me
to imminent death—as though it had already come.
