كَأَنَّ الشَرارَ عَلى نارِنا
وَقَد راقَ مَنظَرُهُ كُلَّ عَينِ
It is as though the sparks above our fire—
The sparks are like fire upon our fire
and indeed their sight has delighted every eye—
And their sight has pained every eye
سُحالَةُ تِبرٍ إِذا ما عَلَت
فَإِمّا هَوَت فُفُتاتُ اللُجينِ
are filings of raw gold when they rise,
Flakes of ashes when they fly aloft
but if they fall, then fragments of silver.
Then they crumble like bits of dry clay
