وَحياةِ مِن أُصفي هَوايَ لَهُ
ما جَنَّ إِظلامٌ وَلاحَ سَنا
By the life of him to whom I devote my love,
A life where I pursue my passion in solitude
as long as darkness falls and radiance gleams,
No darkness looms, no radiance shines
لَيسَ الَّذي يجزي المُحبّ بِهِ
مِن قَتلِهِ حِلّاً وَلا حَسَنا
what he repays the lover with—
For a lover, no reward suffices
killing him—is neither lawful nor good.
Neither for slaying foes, nor acts benign
