1. Whoever ascribed glory to us spoke truly.

    No one who spoke was at fault—whatever he said was true.

  2. Our glory is the sun in splendor and radiance;

    whoever would veil its brilliance has no power to.

  3. O you who announce our glory’s death to us,

    can glory be harmed because calamity came knocking?

  4. The tears in the corners of our eyes do not dismay us;

    the hands of searing grief have mingled them with blood.

  5. Fate raged against us and struck,

    as Fate is ever enraged against the freeborn.

  6. Long has sovereignty been enamored of us;

    it saw suns among us and fell in love.

  7. Kings of ours have passed away, renowned

    with the sun’s renown, revealed across the horizon.

  8. We are descendants of the Banū Māʾ al-Samāʾ;

    the glances of all eyes yearn toward us.

  9. And when our faith remains whole,

    whatever parts from us of this world is paltry.

  10. Ten years, and ten more after them,

    then thirty and twenty in succession;

  11. of those very years, twenty shone forth,

    and three radiant ones glitter.
