يا قَمَراً قَلبي لَهُ مَطلَعُ
وَشادِناً في مُهجَتي يَرتَعُ
O moon whose rising place is my heart,
and young gazelle who grazes freely in my inmost soul!
وَاللَه ما أَطمَعُ في العَيشِ مُذ
أَصبَحتُ في وَصلِكِ لا أَطمَعُ
By God, I have had no desire for life since
I ceased to hope for union with you.
لَيتَ كَما يَرتَعُ في مُهجَتي
أَنّيَ في ريقِهِ أَكرَعُ
Would that, as he grazes within my soul,
I might drink directly from his saliva.
