1. شَرِبنا وَجَفنُ اللَيلِ يَغسِلُ كُحلَهُ

    بِماءِ الصَباحِ وَالنَسيمُ رَقيقُ

    We drank, as the eyelid of night washed away its kohl

    with the water of morning, while the breeze was gentle—

  2. مُعَتَّقَةً كالتِبرِ أَمّا بُخارُها

    فَضَخمٌ وَأَمّا جِسمُها فَدَقيقُ

    an aged wine, like uncoined gold; as for its vapor,

    it was thick, while its body was delicate.
