وَشَمعَةٌ تَنفي ظَلام الدُجى
نَفيَ يَدي العُدم عَن الناسِ
A candle dispels the darkness of night
My hands banish nothingness from people
قَد جَعَل الرَحمان مِن لُطفِهِ
حَياتَها في القَطع لِلرأسِ
The Merciful made its gentleness
Its life in beheading
ساهَرتُها وَالكأسُ يَسعى بِها
مَن ريقُهُ أَشهى مِنَ الكأسِ
I stay up with it, and the cup pursues it
Whose saliva is more delicious than the cup
ضياؤُها لا شَكَّ مِن وَجهِهِ
وَحَرُّها مِن حَرّ أَنفاسي
Its light undoubtedly from His face
And its heat from the heat of my breath
