1. الدَهرُ لا تَبقى عَلَيهِ نَعامَةٌ

    سَهلاً تَحُلُّ وَتَتَّقي أَجرالَها

    Time does not stay still for an ostrich

    Easily settling and dodging its wounds

  2. وَوَرى لَها بَرقٌ فَهاجَ زَفيفَها

    أُدَحِيَّها تَبغي بِذاكَ وَرالَها

    And it sees lightning that stirred up its torrent

    It seeks with that its flowers

  3. تُلفي بِها رَيبَ الزَمانِ مُوَكَّلاً

    إِن لَم يَزُرها بِالنَهارِ سَرى لَها

    Wrapping around it the suspicion of time assigned

    If the morning light did not visit it, the night visited it
