  3. They claim that these souls endure,

    taking shape in their bodies and growing refined,

  4. then passing out of them: the fortunate is honored

    by what awaits him, while the wretched is stripped bare.

  5. You were never fair in the days of your life,

    but tormented, tugged to and fro in your own cords.

  6. And if sensation remained in a dead body,

    I would swear that death is sweeter in the mouth.
