1. My soul, should it draw away from the body, knows a terror

    like that of a woman driven from her homeland.

  2. And if, against its will, it leaves its resting place,

    its dwelling there was never of its own choosing.

  3. So win salvation through devotion in life, and plant

    your feet firmly on the earth before it collapses.

  4. Though in your faith you exalt your Friday observances,

    I know men whose souls are enamored of petty things.
