الظُلمُ في الطَبعِ فَالجاراتُ مُرهَقَةٌ
وَالعِرفُ يَستُرُ وَالميزانُ مَبخوسُ
Injustice is ingrained in nature: the creatures dwelling beside us are overburdened;
Custom draws a veil, while the scales give short measure.
وَالطِرفُ يُضرَبُ وَالأَنعامُ مَأكَلَةٌ
وَالعيرُ حامِلُ ثِقلٍ وَهوَ مَنخوسُ
The noble steed is beaten, and livestock are made a meal;
The ass bears a burden, goaded all the while.
