1. قَلَّدَتني الفُتيا فَتَوِّجني غَداً

    تاجاً بِإِعفائي مِنَ التَقليدِ

    The youth adorned me, and tomorrow they will crown me

    With a crown for freeing me from conformity

  2. وَمِنَ الرَزِيَّةِ أَن يَكونَ فُؤا

    دُكَ الوَقّادُ في جَسَدٍ عَلَيهِ بَليدِ

    And it saddens me that your kindling should reside

    In a numb body upon which sorrows alight

  3. وَحَوادِثُ الأَيّامِ تولَدُ جِلَّةً

    وَتَعودُ تَصغُرُ ضِدَّ كُلِّ وَليدِ

    And the events of days give birth to a throng

    Then subside, belittling all that is newborn
