تَفادى نُفوسُ العالَمينَ مِنَ الرَدى

وَلا بُدَّ لِلنَفسِ المُشيحَةِ مِن أَخذِ

Souls of both worlds have avoided folly

And the grieved soul must inevitably take.

تَرى المَرءَ جَبّارَ الحَياةِ وَإِن دَنَت

مَنِيَّتُهُ أَلَفَيتَهُ وَهوَ مُستَخذي

You see man as formidable in life even when

His death has drawn near, subduing him while he still acts imposing.
