يُؤَمِّلُ كُلٌّ أَن يَعيشَ وَإِنَّما

تُمارِسُ أَهوالَ الزَمانِ إِذا عِشتا

Each hopes he lives, but only

If you live, you experience the terrors of time.

إِذا اِفتَرَقَت أَجزاءُ جِسمي لَم أُبَل

حُلولَ الرَزايا في مَصيفٍ وَلا مَشتى

When my body parts separate, I will not care

About hardships in summer or winter.

فَرِش مُعدِماً إِن كانَ يُمكِنُ رَيشُهُ

وَلا تَفخَرَن بَينَ الأَنامِ بِما رِشتا

A bird whose feathers enable flight,

So do not boast among people for what you have sprinkled.

وَإِن فِضتَ لِلأَقوامِ بِالمالِ وَالغِنى

فَيا بَحرُ أَيقِن بِالنُضوبِ وَإِن جِشتا

If you spend money and riches on people,

Oh sea, be certain to ebb even if you flood.
