يَستَأسِدُ النَبتُ الغضيضُ فَلا تَلُم
رَجُلاً مَتى أَبصَرتَهُ مُستَأسِدا
The weak shrub grows vicious, so don’t blame
A man when you see him grow vicious too.
وَإِذا حُسِدتَ فَإِنَّ شُكرَ فَضيلَةٍ
أَن لا تُؤاخِذَ في الإِساءَةِ حاسِدا
And when envied, it is a virtue’s thanks
Not to reproach the envier when he harms.
وَمِنَ الرَزيَّةِ رَن تَبيتَ مُكَلَّفاً
إِصلاحَ مَن صَحِبَ الغَريزَةَ فاسِدا
It is a misery that you must lose sleep
To reform one who nature made corrupt.
وَالدَينُ مَتجَرُ مَيِّتٍ فَلِذالِكَ لا
تُلفيهِ في الأَحياءِ إِلّا كاسِدا
Religion is a dead man's merchandise, so
You’ll find none peddling it but charlatans.
