أَمّا وَفُؤادٍ بِالغَرامِ قَريحِ

وَدَمعٍ بِأَنواعِ الهُمومِ سَريحِ

My heart is sick with love,

My tears flow with all kinds of worries,

لَقَد غَرَّتِ الدُنيا بَنيها بِمَذقِها

وَإِن سَمَحوا مِن وُدِّها بِصَريحِ

The world has certainly deceived its sons with its taste,

Even if they were frank in their affection with an honest man.

أَلَيلى وَكُلٌّ أَصبَحَ اِبنَ مُلَوَّحٍ

وَلُبنى وَما فينا سِوى ابنِ ذَريحِ

O Layla! And everyone has become a salt-encrusted son,

And for Lubna - there is nothing left but a son of rags.

وَفي كُلِّ حينٍ يونُسُ القَومُ آيَةٌ

بِشَخصٍ قَتيلٍ أَو بِشَخصٍ جَريحِ

وَلَم يَطَّرِحكِ المَرءُ عَنهُ لِعِبرَةٍ

يَراها بِمَرفوتِ العِظامِ طَريحِ

وَلَيسَ لَنا في مُدَّةِ العَيشِ راحَةٌ

وَتَعقُدُ سَلوانَ الفَتى عَنكَ نَفسُهُ

بِأَذيالِ بَرقٍ أَو دَوائِبِ ريحِ

وَما زالَ في بَلواكِ مُذ يَومَ وَضعَهُ

عَلَيكِ إِلى أَن عادَ رَهنَ ضَريحِ

And he has not stopped being tested by you since the day he was created

Until he returned a hostage to the grave.

طَلَبتُ شَفاءً مِنكِ وَاِهتَجتُ سائِلاً

بِذاكَ أَبا سَلمانَ وَاِبنَ بُرَيحِ

I sought healing from you and cried out pleading
