تَنَسَّكتَ بَعدَ الأَربَعينَ ضَرورَةً

وَلَم يَبقَ إِلّا أَن تَقومَ الصَوارِخُ

After forty it was imperative to turn ascetic

And there was nothing left except for the war cries to sound

فَكَيفَ تُرَجّي أَن تُثابَ وَإِنَّما

يَرى الناسُ فَضلَ النُسكِ وَالمَرءُ شارِخُ

So how can you wish to be rewarded when

People see the merit of devotion while the man is defiant
