أَخو الحَربِ كَالوافِرِالدائِريّ

أَعضَبُ في الخَطبِ أَو أَعقَصُ

Brother of war like the abundant rotating one

Jagged in speech or truncated

يُرى كامِلُ سالِمِهِ كامِلاً

فَيَخزَلُ بِالدَهرِ أَو يوقَصُ

He seems intact, intact

Then withers with time or is docked

وَمَن لَكَ بِالعَيشِ في غُرَّةٍ

تَظَلُّ مَطاياكَ لا تَرقُصُ

And why would you live sheltered

Your mounts' shades won't dance

وَإِنَّكَ مُقتَضَبُ الشَعرِ لا

يُزادُ بِحالٍ وَلا يُنقَصُ

You're shorn of hair, not to be
