1. ضَحِكنا وَكانَ الضِحكُ مِنّا سَفاهَةً

    وَحُقَّ لِسُكّانِ البَسيطَةِ أَن يَبكوا

    We laughed, and our laughter was foolishness

    The dwellers of the desert have the right to weep

  2. يُحَطِّمُنا رَيبُ الزَمانِ كَأَنَّنا

    زُجاجٌ وَلَكِن لا يُعادُ لَهُ سَبكُ

    The doubt of fate shatters us as though we were

    Glass, but glass cannot be melted down again
