لا تَقطَعِ الحينَ مُغتاباً لِغافِلَةٍ

مِنَ النُفوسِ وَلا تَجلِس إِلى السَمَرِ

Do not now disdain the heedless folk,

Nor waste thy time in idle chat and play;

تَوَخَّ نَقلَ أَبي زَيدٍ وَكُتبَ أَبي

عَمرٍ وَخَلِّ كَلاماً في أَبي عُمَرِ

Rather recite what Zayd and Umar writ,

And talk about what Abu Amr did say.
