عَجِبتُ لِطَيرٍ بِلُطفِ المَليكِ
مَخلوقَةٍ لِصَلاحِ الثَمَر
I marvel at birds—by the Sovereign’s subtle grace,
created so that the fruit may thrive.
تُثَقِّبُهُ مولَعاتٍ بِهِ
وَلَو لَم تَزُرهُ تَهاوى فَمَر
They bore through it, passionately devoted to it;
had they not visited, it would have fallen and been gone.
تَحُلُّ مَحَلّاً لَها ثانِياً
وَتَترُكُ مَنزِلَها قَد دَمَر
They settle in a second dwelling of their own,
and leave their former home fallen to ruin.
