لَعَمري لَقَد أَغَنَتكَ صورَةُ واحِدٍ

مِنَ الإِنسِ في الأَقوامِ عَن كُنيَةٍ وَاِسمِ

By my life, the image of one

Of mankind in the tribes has made dispensable for you a teknonym and name

وَلَكِن بَيانٌ زيدَ فيكَ وَإِنَّما

جَرَينا مِنَ الأَمرِ القَديمِ عَلى رَسمِ

But you were given more clarity and we

Have been proceeding according to the ancient way

وَما كانَ فينا مِن سَجِيَّةِ مُخطِئٍ

فَقَد وُجِدَت في حَيِّ عادٍ وَفي طَسمِ

And whatever failing nature there was in us

Was found in the tribe of 'Aad and in Thasm

إِذا ما تَفَرَّقنا خَلَصنا مِنَ الأَذى

وَلَم يُحَوَجِ الراعي المُسيمُ إِلى الوَسمِ

When we separate we are rid of harm

And the herdsman of marked animals has no need for marking

تَحَمَّل عَنِ الأَرضِ المَريضَةِ غادِياً

وَلا تَرضَ لِلداءِ العَياءِ سِوى الحَسمِ

Bearing away from the sick land going on

And accept no remedy for persistent disease except decisive settlement

وَما فَتِأَت روحُ الفَتى في نَوائِبٍ

تُمارِسُها حَتّى اِستَقَلَّت عَنِ الجِسمِ

And the spirit of the young man did not cease

To experience tribulations until it became independent of the body

صَبَرنا لِحُكمِ اللَهِ وَالنَفسُ حُرَّةٌ

وَقَد عَلِمَت فَضلَ التَفاوُتِ في القِسمِ

We have patience for God's judgement and the soul is free

And it has known the excellence of variation in apportionment
