Can rain wash mankind from the face of the earth?
For as long as they remain, filth never leaves its face.
There is no hope that the earth will be purified
unless humankind vanishes from its horizons.
They breed, and evil grows through their progeny;
and how vice abounds when their young men remain unwed!
Purer than the race whose noses rise in pride
is a race of wild beasts whose noses are snubbed.
Gazelles are not made beautiful by ornaments upon them;
rather, gazelles have their lairs among the ghada trees.
The multitude plead forgetfulness as an excuse for going astray,
yet they strayed knowingly—I do not say they forgot.
