لَقَد لَقِيَ المَرءُ مِن دَهرِهِ
عَجائِبَ يُغلِثُها الغالِثُ
Indeed, a mortal has met, at the hands of Time,
wonders that the muddler himself jumbles up.
وَكَم باتَ ثانِيَ عِرسٍ لَهُ
فَأَصبَحَ بَينَهُما ثالِثُ
How often he has lain at night as his spouse’s second,
and by morning there was a third between them.
