1. حَديثٌ جاءَ عَن هابي

    لَ في الدَهرِ وَقابيلا

    A tale came from Haby

    Of no good in life or requital

  2. وَطَيرٌ عَكَفَت يَوماً

    عَلى الجَيشِ أَبابيلا

    And a bird once perched

    On the army, ill-omened

  3. مَتى تَرحَلُ عَن دُنيا

    تَزيدُ الأَهلَ تَخبيلا

    When will you leave this world

    Increasing sorrow in the folk?

  4. سِواهُم نَخَلَ النُصحَ

    وَلاقوكَ غَرابيلا

    Except the palm trees of sincerity

    You met but ravens

  5. لَبِسنا مِن مَدى الأَيّا

    مِ لِلغَيِّ سَرابيلا

    We wore for the long days

    Garments for the vain, diaphanous

  6. وَقَضَّيتُ زَمانَ الشَر

    خِ تَقيِيداً وَتَكبيلا

    And I spent the days of evil

    Tied and shackled

  7. وَزارَ الطَيفُ في النَومِ

    فَلَم تَسأَلهُ تَقبيلا

    And a specter visited in sleep

    Yet you did not ask for a kiss

  8. فَفَرِّق مالَكَ الجَمِّ

    وَخَلِّ الأَرضَ تَسبيلا

    So distribute your wealth

    And leave the land to roam

  9. وَلا تَستَزرِ بِالقَومِ

    إِذا كانوا تَنابيلا

    And do not clothe yourself with the folk

    If they are effeminate

  10. فَما كُنتَ مِنَ الرَهطِ

    يُعَدّونَ مَقابيلا

    For you were not of the company

    They counted as requital

  11. وَلا يَبقى عَلى الساعا

    تِ أَغفارٌ بِإِشبيلا

    And there remained not in the moment
